Advertising is used for marketing products and services that send a non-personal message to sell a product, service, or idea. Advertising can be accomplished through several forms of media such as social media, newspapers, television, and direct mail, to name a few. If you have a product to market, you may go to an advertiser to help you market your product, as they know what works for the type of customer you are trying to reach.

They may suggest that you use the promotion to make your product more appealing to the consumer. They would publicize your product and offer a promotional offer of gift with purchase or buy one get one free. Makeup companies are famous for having the gift with purchase, and you will see these types of promotions around the holidays.

All businesses use marketing tactics to increase sales and increase interest in the business. Two of the marketing tactics that can be used to increase sales are advertising and promotion. They both have the same end goal of increasing profits for their business, but there are differences between them. One of those differences is in regards to time it takes for the profits to show depending on the tactic.

Advertising is done through putting the business on ads, such as a billboard, a television commercial, or promoting on radio. This takes much more time than a promotion, for a promotion could be a sale or a free gift to increase sales.

Advertising and promotion happen to be two different marketing tools that are employed in modern marketing. Though techniques of approach to the two are similar, there are some significant differences between them. The first difference to be mentioned here is the difference in time spent to carry out each activity before you can get results. However, advertising needs more of your patience with time before it gives you tangible results.

Whereas, the result of promoting a product or service can be seen instantly after the promotion active has been carried out. Nevertheless, when we are talking of the last longing effect of these terminologies, advertising has longer and deeper effects, thus resulting in greater profits. Conversely, promotion does not really bring last longing profit like advertising, as its effects do not last long like advertising. Advertising is usually done through the television, radio, local or national press, posters, and large billboards advertisement. Meanwhile, promotions are usually carried out through discount coupons in the local press, free product samples, special store events, and an increase in the number of goods sales at lower prices.
