If a recipe asks for salt, but you don’t want to use salt, then you can definitely try the following salt substitute: Citrus juice from grapefruit, lemon, lime, or orange can be used to add flavor to your food if you want to opt using salt. Just squeeze the juice and mix it with the dish little by little until you get your desired taste. You can also use plain yellow mustard, salsa or sodium-free apple cider vinegar because they blend together with salad dressings.

Other herbs and spices can be a substitute for salt, as well, such as black pepper, cayenne, cumin, garlic, onion powder, oregano, and garlic. However, if you still want, you can mix 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 2 teaspoons of ground oregano, 2 teaspoons of black pepper, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of dry mustard, 6 tablespoons of onion powder, 3 tablespoons of paprika and 3 tablespoons of poultry seasoning, and then put in in your salt shaker.
