The simple knot is also referred to as the Petit Noeud, Kent and Oriental knot. This knot uses the fewest steps and is the easiest to learn how to do. This knot is not very common in the west but is still used widely in China. This knot is a bit more difficult to untie as it does not release itself, which may account for this difference. This knot can be used for tall guys who need an extra bit of length in their ties or for very thick ties. This is how you use this knot: First, begin with the back of the tie facing away from you with the wider end on the right and the smaller side is on the left. The bottom of the small end of the tie should sit just slightly above your belly-button which will differ depending on tie thickness, your height and the length of the tie itself.

Move the wider end under the small end which is to the left. Cross the small end to the right and up into the neck loop from underneath. Then down in the loop in the front. Finally, you pull down on the wide end to tighten while sliding the knot up to adjust.
