According to scientific research, the Universe is about 13.8 billion years old. Scientists have formed this estimate of the age of the Universe using two different methods to help them. The first method is based on the age of things that have been found within the Universe. The other method involves easuring how fast the Universe is expanding. Scientists know that the Universe cannot be younger than the objects that are contained within it.

Scientists also relate the age of the Universe according to a knowledge of how fast certain sized stars burn through all the fuel they have to burn.
