York Castle High School is popular not only because of what it can offer but because of its rich history. There are some records about the school from the year 1875. It started out when York Castle was purchased by the Methodist Church.

It was converted into a Theological College. This was back in the year 1876 but three years later, they had to close down because of financial difficulties. It was in the year 1955 when the school was opened again because of some citizens.

It was opened again as a school for boys. In the year 1956, this was handed down to the Methodist Church. As the reputation of the school became more established, it was opened to more students in Jamaica.

York castle high school is a secondary school founded in 1875. York castle high school started as a theological college by the Methodist Church. After some years, the theological college named York castle was forced to close its doors due to financial problems. However, before the closure of York castle, the principal at that time, Mr. T. Bramwell, set up a Middlesex High school.

The school was later renamed Henderson High School after Rev. George Henderson. The establishment of Henderson High School during the period of York castle's closure helped so many students. In 1946, the Methodist Church also saw the need to establish a co-educational school for boys. This idea was supported by the whole church and a committee was set up to actualize the project.

However, on November 30, 1956, an offer came from Northside secondary school, asking the Methodist Church to continue running the school. This was accepted by the committee, and they were able to purchase Northside secondary school. After the school was handed over to the Methodist Church on January 1, 1957, it was renamed York Castle High School on May 16, 1975.

York Castle high school is a co-educational secondary school in Jamaica, and the school plays an integral role in the development of Jamaica. It was established as a school in 1875. During that year, the Methodist Church purchased a property named York castle near Alderton, in which a theological college came to fruition in 1876. York castle closed its doors because it was in severe financial distress. Even though it was closed, there was a need for education in that area, as it was a challenge to those who wanted to further their studies to have no place to flourish and succeed. In the meantime, another school opened and closed. In 1946, the Methodist Church was being encouraged to see that it had an obligation to educate students; it was proposed for a school of young boys, or a co-educational school called York Castle. In 1958, the new school building opened with 195-day students and 40 borders.
