Both anatomical zones are parts of the adrenal glands, and these are glands that are situated on the kidney. The adrenal cortex is the outmost layer of the adrenal gland, while the adrenal medulla is the mid or inner layer of the adrenal gland. The adrenal cortex distributes three kinds of hormones, which include glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and androgens.

The adrenal medulla also plays an integral role in the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline. These two hormones have a significant influence on the body, including blood departure from the skin to the inner organs such as the liver and brain.

Including but not limited to an upsurge in overall metabolism, pupil, and bronchial expansion, the hair or skin stands like goosebumps, or goose flesh, reduced clotting time, an increased ACTH release from the anterior pituitary gland. The effects are very similar to the adrenal cortex. The hormones of the adrenal medulla, however, are issued because of different nerve markers for the stress response.

One thing that you should realize is that the adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla come with two very different functions. One of the main differences is the type of hormones that will be released. When you use the adrenal cortex, you can already expect that this is something that will be used in order to keep you alive.

The hormones that are being released by the adrenal medulla can also help regulate your body but will not be as crucial as those that are being secreted by the adrenal cortex. For example, the adrenal cortex will release a type of hormone called glucocorticoids that will be responsible for trying to repair the effects of long term stress.
