There are a lot of people right now who are feeling a bit confused between gumbo and jambalaya. Gumbo is a thick type of stew that is served with a side of rice, while jambalaya is known to be a type of stew that will be cooked with rice. The main reason why people think that they are the same is they are both meat and rice dishes.

The type of meat that will be used can also differ a bit. People will have different preferences with which one they like more. Gumbo will have a longer cooking time than the Jambalaya, probably because the meat and the rice are cooked separately. Expect that the flavors of the two are going to be different from each other.
