Mucinex and Mucinex DM are drugs that are globally used for treating cough, however how similar their use might be they differ in vigor. Both drugs can be employed in treating coughs of all sorts except those caused by smoking or any long existing breathing issues like cystic fibrosis, etc.; Mucinex has in it guaifenesin, which serves as something that helps loosen mucus so it can be coughed easily. It is, however, worthy of note that the dosage for Mucinex should more than one or two tablets in 12 hours, and not more than 4 tablets should be taken in a day.

Mucinex DM does not only contain guaifenesin but also has in it Dextromethorphan, which is a cough suppressant. Mucinex DM is prescribed as to be taken as one tablet in the 12 hours range of time, and must not be taken more than 2 tablets in one day. This owes to its effectiveness, which lasts more than 12 hours, which is way powerful than Mucinex.

Both medications are used for treating cough caused by any number of reasons, including the flu, bronchitis, or other breathing problems. These medications cannot be used in treating cough triggered by smoking or any other issue such as cystic fibrosis. These types of medications are known as cough suppressants, and medical practitioners commonly prescribe them.

Children should not consume Mucinex. The main ingredient, in both, is called guaifenesin, which is an expectorant which facilitates in creating the mucous and making it less viscous. It thins it out, which helps with removing mucous congestion from the nasal tracts in the chest. Mucinex DM is more robust than plain Mucinex, and it can fight both dry and wet cough, and it suppresses the part of the brain that makes you cough.
