Although antivirus and antimalware are meant to protect computers against viruses and malware, there are still some differences between the two. Antivirus is a piece of software that can be used to detect, delete, and neutralize viruses from the computer system. Antimalware, on the other hand, is also any software designed to combat or destroy malware on a computer system.

Before going into their differences, it is important to know that viruses are just a type of malware, as there is other malware such as worms, Trojans, and other malicious software. This simply means those antiviruses are just a type of antimalware, specifically designed to destroy viruses on a computer system, while antimalware can be used to destroy all kinds of malware.

Antimalware programs are effective towards protecting the computer system against newer malware and other sophisticated malware, while antivirus is only effective against online threats and not against advanced malware.
