Dexamethasone and prednisone are both corticosteroids that are synthetically made. The drug has its's brand name as Decadron, and its generic name is Dexamethasone. On the other hand, the second drug has its brand name as Predsol and its generic name as prednisone. Dexamethasone is usually used to reduce the swelling in various diseases.

Some examples of these diseases include systemic lupus disease, acute gouty arthritis, Crohn's disease, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. Some tedious reactions such as atopic dermatitis, drug triggered dermatitis, bronchial asthma that refuses to respond to some other pharmacological treatment may respond to this drug. Prednisone, on the other hand, is very effective for patients with asthma.

This drug is often recommended for status asthmaticus patients or even more serious asthma condition. Prednisone has also been proven to work effectively rheumatoid arthritis condition in a patient. This drug can also be used to treat some other situations like ulcerative colitis and skin diseases.
