The critical difference between Ambien and Lunesta is that Lunesta is approved for long term use, while Ambien is not. Most physicians are cautious only to administer the drug for six to eight weeks. These drugs are given for the specific purpose of helping the person to fall asleep and remain asleep for eight hours.

Ambien comes in 5 or 10 mg tablets. Lunesta comes in 1, 2, or 3 mg tablets. Ambien is demonstrated to decrease sleep latency for up to 35 days. Lunesta takes effect immediately. Ambien has a reputation for triggering sleepwalking and even sleep-driving, which is very frightening because this drug is so popular.

Lunesta’s side effects are not all that severe. It can cause indigestion and decreased fertility in both male and female patients.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder. It prevents people from falling asleep or staying asleep for a long time. Insomnia can be very harmful to persons healthy, for it could lead to other conditions such as depression and anxiety. To help a person sleep, there are various medications on the market.

Two of those are Ambien and Lunesta. One of the differences between them is in regards to the dosage. Ambien has a high dosage of 5mg to 10mg a day. Lunesta has a dosage of 1mg.

Another difference is the amount of time it takes to work. Ambien is immediate, while Lunesta will last longer.

Ambien and Lunesta are made specifically to help people suffering from insomnia, but there are still some differences between the two. Although both come in tablet form, Ambien exists in 5mg and 10mg while Lunesta exists in 1mg, 2mg, and 3mg. Of course, the 10mg of Ambien is meant for adults, and it must be taken once in a day.

In contrast, the 2mg and the 3mg of Lunesta are usually prescribed for adults. Although both are expected to be taken for about ten days, Ambien can only reduce insomnia cases for up to 35 days, whereas the desired effect of Lunesta can help to treat insomnia for up to six months.

Both produced similar results because you will definitely have a good sleep, usually for about 8 hours, but Lunesta gives more long-term benefits compared to Ambien. Also, both have similar side effects, such as drowsiness, headaches, etc.
