Both five dextrose and dextrose saline sugar solutions are sterile and made up of dextrose. The chief difference between the two is the presence r absence of sodium chloride. However, stay away from dextrose if you have high blood sugar, low potassium in the blood, and swelling of the arms. Five dextrose is a 5 percent dextrose, which is a combination of dextrose and water.

Five dextrose is an intravenous sugar solution with 5gms of a dextrorotatory form of glucose dissolved in 100ml of water. Since it is a solvent in water, it is called an aqueous solution. The flow of water precisely balances the movement of water out of the cell into the cell. That is why it aides as an isotonic solution soon after it is directed into the body.
