There are different people with different pain thresholds. Some can really withstand much pain, while some hardly could hardly bare even the pain of an ant bite, they just go wild. Do, doctors usually keep the record of this about their patients so as to control the level of treatment being given to them in any form. However, pharmacologic companies have tried and are still trying their best to invent better painkillers with less or no side effects.

Two popular and good painkillers are ultram and tramadol, which actually have their differences, though they perform the same function. Tramadol, though not synthetic, is grouped as an opioid pain reliever. On the other hand, ultram is an immediate-release tablet. Tramadol is noted with average to serious pain, while ultram is noted for pain management. Ultram happens to be a brand name, while tramadol is the generic drug for this drug. Also, tramadol is cheaper than ultram.

Tramadol acts by binding to opioid receptors on neurons. It is also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The drug has had modest success with treating fibromyalgia. Tramadol is part of a group of medicines which are classified as opioid analgesics. Opiates work to eradicate pain by slowing down the central nervous system. With any opioid, there is a risk for dependency.
