Active and passive are two words with the direct opposite meaning. For example, to be active means to have the power, quality, or ability to affect or cause change. Passive means to be subjected to an action without producing a reaction. In a sentence, an active voice describes the Subject that is performing an action in a sentence. It is usually in this order, Subject + verb + object. For example, 1. She ate the bread, 2. The teacher beat the boy, mercilessly.

Passive voice, on the other hand, is like the opposite of active voice, the verb is describing the object that is receiving the action. It usually comes in this order, object + verb + subject. It should be noted that the preposition ''by'' is mostly used when following this order. For example, 1. John was beaten by the class teacher, 2. The meat was eaten by the boy.
