There are two kinds of atelectasis and they are called obstructive atelectasis and non-obstructive atelectasis. There are also two kinds of pneumothorax and they are called traumatic pneumothorax and non-traumatic pneumothorax.

A person may contract atelectasis by problems with their lungs. It can also be caused by pneumothorax, but pneumothorax can’t be caused by atelectasis. A person may contract pneumothorax by being injured and there is an injury to their lungs or some sort of infection to their lungs. Atelectasis can be asymptomatic. Pneumothorax is symptomatic. However, so can atelectasis. Pneumothorax is treated by surgery or inserting a needle or tube into the lungs. Treating atelectasis is a little easier with breathing exercises. The likelihood that either of these illnesses will reoccur is much greater in Pneumothorax.
