Prescription medicines are pharmaceutical medicines that are only available to patient with a prescription from their doctor.

Many drugs are not available over the counter and are only gotten through prescription. This is because some of these medicines can be abused and misused. Prescription drugs are drugs that need to be well controlled so as not to cause other severe side effects.

For example, you must have a prescription before you can purchase a drug to control diabetes. These drug are not available over the counter for quick purchase. You must have a prescription to get one.
