When did Bagpipes become a famous instrument?

Bagpipes became famous in the 18 century, it was popular throughout Europe especially in a place like Switzerland. It is believed that the bagpipe has been in existence long before the 18th century because many sculpture and cravings and paintings prove that bagpipe existed even before the 17th century.

Due to development, inventions of modern musical instruments and technology, there has been a decline in the use of bagpipes since the beginning of the 20th century. Now, they are used during ceremonies, funeral and in the military.
