Since I speak English and that is the only language that I speak, I don’t have another language to compare it to. That does not mean that I don’t realize that there are some sayings in English that some ridiculous. Some of the sayings that are ridiculous are because someone made them up and then got other people to say them. Then it became popular due to so many people saying them.
One saying they gets on my nerves because it sound so ridiculous is it is what it is. I like that saying. In many native languages there are probably many sayings that don’t translate equally in the English language because the English language has many weird expressions that only English speakers know.
