The boy who nearly got his eye poked out by whomping willow is Davey Gudgeon. The whomping willow is a very dangerous and valuable tree planted in the middle of the school, and was planted at the arrival of Lupin in 1971.
It was planted to hide the secret passage from Hogwarts to the Shrieking shack, a building located in the village of Hogsmeade, it had thick trunk, long and thin leaves and was capable of moving. The whomping willow shows how destructive it was when Harry’s nimbus 2000 broomstick sailed into the willow and was smashed into pieces.
