Back in the 1920s, Yokohama was considered the 6th largest city in Japan in terms of population. Today, however, Yokohama has an estimated total population of more than 3.7 million people and is considered to be the second most populated city in Japan after Tokyo with a total population of more than 9 million people.

Yokohama has a total area of 437.38 square kilometers and it used to be just a small fishing village until the end of the Edo period. Now, it is considered as one of the prominent port cities in Japan along with Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, Chiba and Hakata.
