Pigeons have earned the nicknames “rats of the sky” and “urban rats”. Pigeons like to live in urban areas and easily thrive because of the food that humans leave behind. Pigeons will feed on whatever food they can find, although they do prefer to eat fruits and seeds.
Pigeons live everywhere on Earth, with the exception of the driest areas of the Sahara Desert, and Antarctica and its islands. These birds have been domesticated for hundreds of years and was raised and trained to be homing pigeons as well as messenger pigeons. Messenger pigeons was the most common way to communicate prior to the telegraph.
