Everyone at one time or another might need to apply a patch to their favorite pair of jeans. It used to be that the patch was applied by sewing it on to the fabric with needle and thread; however, now we have iron-on patches.

• Choose a cloth patch to match or coordinate with the clothing you are patching.

• The patch will have cloth on the front and a substance on the back that will melt when the heat is applied.

• Put a piece of cloth on the underside of the clothing, behind the hole to be patched.

• Lay the patch on top so that you have a sandwich of the patch, hole, cloth.

• Apply hot iron to the area where the patch is and hold there for the prescribed amount of time on the directions.

• Presto, the hole is covered.

• Trim the inside so that there is no overhang of the cloth underneath, and you are good to go.
