Pneumonia is a disease caused by an invasion of the lung parenchyma by a disease-causing agent, which causes the solidifying of pulmonary tissue. The average lung does not have any of these disease-causing agents. Pneumonia can result whenever these defenses are compromised, or the host resistance is decreased.

Variables such as chronic diseases, immunosuppression, immunosuppressive drugs, and viral infections affect the host resistance, making the host vulnerable. On the other hand, walking pneumonia is characterized by patchy inflammation changes in the lumps, primarily confined to the alveolar septa and pulmonary interstitium.

In this condition, the alveolar septa are widened, and edematous show a mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate. The clinical features such as fever and achiness are not as severe in walking pneumonia.
