Football is the common name certain sports, which include the use of the foot and ball to score goals. It doesn’t matter whether it’s football or soccer, both are termed as football. The United States and Canada call it soccer, while it is known as football just about everywhere in the English- speaking world. The official name originated in Britain around 200 years ago.

Initially, soccer was called “association football.” Usually, in football, two teams of 11 to 18 players engage within a specified area. To score points, each team has to move the ball over to the opponent team’s field. The shape of the ball in each game is different. In soccer, the ball is sphere-shaped. The ball for American and Canadian football contains two pointed ends. Another key difference is that in football, the men wear helmets to protect themselves, while in soccer, the head is exposed. Also, in soccer, the teams use their feet to kick the ball around, while in football, they throw the ball.

I have read several articles that try to explain the difference between soccer and football. I found out many saying that soccer and football only look similar, but they are different from themselves. Nevertheless, I disagree with that. The fact is that football and soccer are the same; they can only possess some differences due to their usages and based on their origins. The key or major difference between the two is that the British call it football, while the Americans refer to it as soccer.

This is the only significant difference between the two. Nevertheless, there is a kind of game that has more origination from Americans. A game where they usually make use of an ovoid ball, trying to get the ball across to the other opponent's line; Some call it rugby; the Americans refer to it as soccer as well, and it is also called American football. Meanwhile, soccer is not really recognized among the British -a game with two teams of 11 players each on a round or spherical ball is majorly called football among the British.
