Xvid is an alternative codec library that follows the MPE G4 standards. It is often X264 is one of the few software libraries that you may use to encode videos into H.264. It has the best H.264 encoder around, even with those that are being commercially sold. With Xvid, it is based mainly on MPEG4, and the final file can be played with almost any of the advanced elements of Xvid that breaks compatibility.

If you do, you must have the Xvid codec installed in the devices on which you intend to play the videos. If you have a lot of older devices that do not support the H.264 files, then Xvid is the safe choice for now.

Xvid is a video codec library that functions like the MPEG4 codec standard. It is an open-source MPEG-4 video codec. Although it is free, it was created to compete with other commercial video codecs. Xvid is mostly used to encode and decode video files. This means you can use it to compress large video files into smaller sizes, and their quality will still be maintained. Also, Xvid can also be used to decompress video files. On the other hand, X264 functions mainly as an encoder. It is a software library used for the encoding of video files into H.264. H.264 is a recent video compression standard.

H.264 is used mostly to compress high-quality digital videos. With X264, you will be able to encode video files of any formats into H.264. It is important to know that if you are using X264 to encode your video files into H.264, you must-have devices that can play the encoded videos. However, if you are using devices that can't play encoded files from H.264, Xvid should be considered.
