It is easy to confuse lie and lye because they are homophones. Homophones are two words that sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings. The lie is a verb because it is an action. This word alone has two different meanings. One of the meanings can refer to knowingly giving false information. The other meaning of lie is also an action, which is to lie on the ground. Lye is a noun. It is one of the types of metal hydroxides. It is also referred to as sodium hydroxide. Lye is used to making soaps and can ensure that drains do not clog up.

A lot of people may not think that lie and lye are almost the same because there is only a difference of one letter, but they definitely mean different things. The lie is known to be a noun or a verb.

This can mean that the person is saying something false, or it may also mean that someone is about to lie down on a surface that is flat. When you say lye, this is a type of metal hydroxide.

This is considered to be a strong alkali. Some also know lye as sodium hydroxide. Lye is normally used to create soap and to make sure that the drains will not get clogged.
