The present continuous tense and the phrase ‘going to’ may actually overlap in some cases. However, both of them are used to refer to or talk in terms of future events or decisions. However, present continuous tense has more ways of using it, or it has more possible uses than referring to future decisions, but when it is used to talk about the future, it usually has a different meaning.

'Going to' is mainly used to talk about a decision that has to do with the future while the present continuous can be used for it to, but it has more applications than just talking about the future alone.

Present Continuous is used to refer to what is happening, at the moment or over a long period of time, or something that is recurring, while on the other hand, the term 'going to' present events in the futuristic point of view.
