Broadband refers to any technology which provides faster connection speeds when compared to dial-up. While Direct Subscriber line, known as DSL, is one of these technologies, and it is popularly used in homes. Broadband has really opened the internet up to something more than data. It has allowed people to be able to use the internet for listening to music, sharing photos, and even watching videos and some other files.

Social networks also started to come up after data speeds that are very high made it more possible. On the other hand, DSL isn't the only technology that is capable of making high-speed access available. Technologies available include satellite internet, ISDN, power line internet, cellular broadband, and so on.

DSL is very much preferred by lots of individuals and companies because they use the same infrastructure as the standard telephone lines. This is easier for telephone companies since they don’t have to lay new lines.
