LAN is the short form of Local Area Network, and is a type of network designed to be used by computers and other devices within a small geographical area such as in the office, building, school, etc. WAN is the short form of Wide Area, and as the name implies, it is a type of network designed to be used by computers and other devices without necessarily having to be in the same building, office, before those devices can be connected to the network.

MAN is the short form of metropolitan area network. It is a type of network designed specifically for a geographical area with a size similar to that of a metropolitan area to interconnect users with computer resources. Distance coverage of the three networks is another differentiating feature. While LAN is designed specifically to cover a small geographical area, MAN covers a larger area compared to LAN, but WAN covers the largest geographical area.

LAN, WAN, and MAN are all types of networks. LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is used to connect computers that are in a small area of one another. Out of all the three it is has the highest amount of bandwidth. WAN stands for Wide Area Network.

It has the lowest amount of bandwidth and it is used to connect those who are further from each other, such as a group in different states or different countries. MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. In regards to the amount of bandwidth, it is in the middle and connects those that are in the same city or town.

Foremost, LAN stands for Local Area Network, WAN stands for Wide Area Network, while MAN simply means Metropolitan Area Network. These are three different types of networks that can be used to link multiple computer systems together. LAN is usually employed in connecting some numbers of computers that are within a limited geographical area.

For WAN, it can help to connects a group of computers within a higher range of geographical area, such as state, country or even continent. The coverage distance for MAN is more than that of LAN, but less than WAN. It is usually used in a town or city.

LAN has higher bandwidth for transferring network; WAN has lower bandwidth for transferring network; while the bandwidth for transferring network in MAN seems moderate. The distance limitation for LAN is between 100 to 1000 meters; that of WAN is about 100 thousand kilometers; while the distance coverage for MAN is up to 100 kilometers.
