If you would check them out, it would seem like they have almost the same meaning but these two words will mean differently. When you say “borrow,” this means that you are taking something from the person with the person’s consent. You know that since you are just “borrowing,” the time will come when you would need to give the item back. When you say “lend,” this means that the person from whom the item will be borrowed will give it directly to the person and will expect that it will be given back. Usually, lending is the term that is used when people would like to get the money first before having to pay it back.

When you lend something, this means that you will allow someone to borrow what you have. For example, you would be lending your guitar to someone else. This means that after the guitar is used, it will be given back to you. This means that you are going to give it temporarily and it is expected that it will be returned to you. When you borrow, this means that you are going to ask for something before it will be given to you. Then, when the time is right, you are expected to give it back. This means that lending will come from the one who has the item while in borrowing, the initiative will come from the borrower.
