About 12 percent of the world's population is battling with all kinds of mental illness. This report is worrisome because children and adolescents are the worst hit. According to a statistic released, mental illness is prevalent among adults compared to others. The population of this set of people has been estimated to be about 30 percent. If we are to make a comparison based on gender, those who suffer mental illness the most are the women.

The population of women suffering from mental illness is increasing on a yearly basis, and the reasons for this cannot be farfetched. Based on some reports, it has been discovered that there will always be a possibility of one out of four people who would experience mental illness at a particular stage of their lives. However, it is important to know the estimated rates for a particular kind of mental disorders differ across the countries of the world.

Mental illness is a condition that is plaguing millions of people around the world. It is estimated that over 950 million people are plagued by mental illness. Among those millions, the group that suffers the most from it are the young adults that range between the ages of 18-25 years old.

There are a number of reasons why this young age group is suffering from this condition. One of the causes is the rise of social media, which has led users to compare their success to images they see of others. Along with that, drug use is another top reason for why so many are suffering from mental illnesses.

With over 950 million people with mental illness, young adults aged between 18 and 25 years have the highest prevalence of any mental illness with a prevalence of 25.8% compared to adults aged between 26-49 years (22.2%) and people aged 50 years and older (13.8%). This is mostly due to substance abuse, genetic predisposition, and environmental factors.

Women are also nearly twice as likely to suffer from any mental illness as men. Women are also more likely to attempt suicide, while men are four times likely to commit suicide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental disorder affects at least one in four people. The statistics are constantly on the rise.
