Most of the flying mammals that you can see right now are bats. Bats are considered to be mammals because of their overall structure, but unlike other mammals, they have the ability to fly. Take note that most experts think that bats are the only mammals that can fly. At this point, you may be wondering what about flying squirrels, flying possums, and so much more?

According to some studies, these actually do not have the ability to fly like the bat, but they can move in such a way that they would seem like they are flying. Most of the bat types are mammals that can fly through.

Bats are the most common example of flying mammals. Bats are mammals of the order Chiroptera. Bats are the second largest order of mammals after rodents. Their forelimbs formed wings of webbed structure, which is analogous to the wings of birds.

This makes them the only true mammals capable of having a true sustained flight. Other mammals that fly include squirrels, colugos, flying lemurs, and gliding possums. Bats are the only mammal with flapping or powered flight. Other mammals mentioned glide over short distances. They are able to glide due to results for convergent evolution.
