Depending on what country you reside in, the holiday may be called different names, as numerous countries were engaged in what is now recognized as one of the world's most significant wars. In France, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Belgium, and French Guiana, it is called Armistice Day. It is called Remembrance Day in Canada, United Kingdom, Isle of Man, and the Cayman Islands.
The United States and Puerto Rico, call it Veteran’s Day. In the United States, countless people put out the American Flag. Church services commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for their country and to express gratitude for their service. There are also wreath-laying and parades. Many schools and businesses close.
