If you have not taken art classes in a while or are immersed in art, you probably haven’t heard of gouache. However, you probably have heard watercolor. Watercolor is used with mainly water and some form of color to paint a picture. We usually paint these pictures on some form of paper. Sometimes, when you paint with watercolor, you can use less water in your paints.
Then the paint will appear darker on the paper. With gouache, it is different because gouache is opaque. Opaque means that it can be seen through it like it is translucent. It is still colored, but it can be seen through. Watercolor, on the other hand, can or cannot be opaque depending upon how much water is used to mix in with the paints.
