Softwood and hardwood form because of the differences of their seeds. The hardwood comes from deciduous trees. These are trees that are known to lose their leaves every year. Softwood comes from conifer trees that are known to have left and remain evergreen no matter what the current season is. Hardwoods are considered to be better for certain types of furniture because they are usually denser as compared to softwood.
