What would a users best plan of action be on receiving an e-mail message warning of a virus that may have accidentally been sent in the past, and suggesting that the user to delete a specific file if it appears on the users computer?

Report the contents of the message to the network administrator.

In such a scenario the most rational answer is to tell your network administrator. Most network administrators dont have much to do most of the day, so they live for an opportunity like this. Incorrect Answers: Deleting the file wouldnt be good, because deleting a file doesnt necessarily eliminate a problem, as it could put it to your email trash folder, or to your recycle bin. This will give you a false sense of security, and work against the process of containment. Copying the email to all distribution lists, is another mistake, because if indeed the email does contain a virus, youll only spread it. Ignoring the problem isnt a good problem, although virus hoaxes are common, all it takes is one real virus to cause a mini-disaster.
