There are many definitions for the term “real-time” because it can occur in a variety of different contexts. For instance, someone could ask, “What is the real time right now?’ He or she may be referring to the time that it is right this second as opposed to a fake time. Another way to describe the definition of “real-time” is with audio or computers.

In audio, the term real time means that there are no breaks in between the sound that is being played and when it is received. If there are delays, then they are not noticed. In the computer industry, “real-time” refers to the actual amount of time it takes the computer to complete a task from beginning to end.
