Crimea is a black sea peninsula connected to Southern Ukraine, which is a country in Europe. Russia and Crimea have deep historical ties. Ukraine controls Crimea, but Russia wants to control Crimea. Crimea was a Ukraine territory, but The Russian Federation annexed it in early 2014 after the Ukrainian president was overthrown and he fled to Russia, With the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukraine was established as an independent state, and most of the peninsula was reorganized as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Russia has been moving to take the peninsula, as it took control of several military bases. Warm and sunny weather characterizes Crimea, positioned between the temperate and subtropical climate.

Crimea was a Ukranian territory since 1953 but was annexed by the Russian Federation in early 2014 after the Ukrainian president Victor Yanukovich was overthrown in a coup and fled to Russia. Crimea sits on a very important geostrategic position with easy access to the black sea and its vast oil resources and also gives anyone who controls it easy aerial and land access to eastern Europe. During the Ukrainian civil war which was instigated in February 2014 by pro-European elements, the whole Ukranian country was divided as most of westernUkraine does not have any Russian roots however most of eastern Ukraine is ethnically Russian and wanted to be close to Russia.

Crimea was a Ukranian territory since 1953 but was annexed by the Russian Federation in early 2014In March 2014 Russian defense forces including army and airforce took Crimea under their control without any resistance by the Ukrainian regular army. Crimea also held significance for Russians as they had their main black sea fleet stationed in Sevastopol, Crimea. Currently, Crimea is under Russian control and divided into two province-
