As a matter of fact, Beowulf is considered as the oldest surviving long poem which was written in Old English. It is also cited as one of the finest works during the Old English literature. Even if you search the internet, you will not find who the real author of Beowulf is, but the poet is often referred to as the “Beowulf poet.” The poem is set in Scandinavia wherein Beowulf arrives to help Hrothgar to defeat the monster named Grendel who kept attacking his mead hall in Heorot.

The story then moves on and Beowulf defeated Grendel’s mother. He then went on to become the king of the Geats until he died after he defeated a dragon fifty years after.
