To determine who is the first novelist, one would have to research back to ancient history. People have been writing for thousands of years. Longus is considered to be the first true novelist. He was an ancient Greek novelist. There is not a lot of information about Longus. He wrote a romance novel about Daphnis and Chloe which takes place on the island of Lesbos.

Even though there is no evidence about where Longus lived, it is believed that he lived on this island since his story’s setting took place there. Longus did live in the second century. There is suspicions that Longus was from a Roman family based on his name. However, there is suspicions that his name may or may not be Longus.
