To create structures that were able to span across long distances, the Romans utilized the structure of arches. In many structures that were built by the ancient Romans, the arch is used in many ways and in many different part of the structure. The Pont du Gard, the Colosseum, Roman baroque and many other structures were all built using the shape of the arch in one way or another.

The Romans began to achieve significant originality in their architecture around the Imperial period after combining their aspects of architecture with other themes taken from Greece and enhancing their work to make it their own.
