The thorax is the middle part of the insect’s body. It contains the legs and wings and several other parts. In the thorax, the insect has its legs and wings. The legs are used to land and the wings are used to fly. Also, the thorax is divided into three sections including the prothorax, mesothorax and metathorax. Some of these parts are together and act as one part.

For instance, the dragonfly has its metathorax and mesothorax as one part. The mosquito has its head and thorax fused together. It is known as the cephalothorax. One set of legs is located in the first section of the thorax, prothorax. Another pair of legs is found on the second section of the thorax, mesothorax.
