Is snowing a natural hazard?

There are many natural disasters that occur in any part of the world. It seems that there is not one place on earth that is not susceptible to a natural hazard or disaster. Some of these disasters can be devastating.

There are earthquakes that are located on the fault lines. Another natural disaster is tornadoes. These usually occur in areas that are on flat lands. That is where they do the most damage. Other natural disasters include avalanches which occur near snowy mountains and volcanic eruptions which occur near volcanoes.

Snow and drought may cause problems but they are not considered to be natural hazards. This is because they do not impact large numbers of people at one time. They may hurt someone or not at all.

Snow may cause problems for people when they are driving to different areas, but it is not considered to be a natural hazard. Drought is a natural hazard because the lack of rain in areas can cause crops not to grow. It also dries up the bodies of water in this area. Without having access to water, this can present a hazard to the people living in this area.

Severe storms are also natural hazards because they cause lightning strikes which produce fires. Severe storms can also have high winds which can uproot trees. Tsunamis are a hazard to people. A tsunami is a large wave sometimes caused by an earthquake. This wave pummels the land without notice. Tornadoes cause high winds and will destroy anything in its path.
