The river is known as the Mae Nom Khong. This means “the mother of all rivers”. The river also goes by the name of Mekong, and can also be considered part of the border between Thailand and Laos. The Mekong starts in the Yunnan province of China before running through Laos, Thailand, and a couple of other countries before ending in Vietnam.

Despite difficult navigation through the river, it acts as an important trade channel between Southeast Asia and Western China. The Mae Nom Khong is a long river, and many smaller rivers feed into it from Thailand, China, and Laos. When it reaches Vietnam, it empties into the South China Sea. It empties via nine different points into said sea.
