The mineral composition of mantle is similar to olivine. Mantle rocks which have about 410 kilometers are said to mostly consist of olivine and other minerals. Olivine, on the other hand, is also considered to be an important mineral in the Earth’s mantle wherein it is said that olivine constitute more or less than 50% of the Earth’s upper mantle. If I am not mistaken, the mantle and olivine both have the composition of Mg or magnesium and Fe or iron. It would be hard to discuss the whole subject about why mantle and olivine have similar mineral composition, but perhaps it would be wise to say that since mantles are mostly made up of olivine and olivine is important to the mantle, then that means that these two goes together perfectly well.
