Polar Wandering or Paleomagnetism is the branch of science that analyzes the magnetic field in the Earth. Due to the Earth’s magnetic fields, minerals that contain magnetic elements will not point to the magnetic poles. It seems that the Earth’s magnetic fields cause the opposite. This was discovered by Von Humboldt during a lightning storm.

Throughout the years, scientists have discovered that magnetic rocks or those from lava either point away or are parallel to the Earth’s magnetic fields. Rocks and other elements that contain iron are affected by the Earth’s magnetic fields. When these rocks were being formed, their movement would point away from the fields due to the magnetism in the Earth and the iron forming in the rocks.
