Gradient is represented through ratios. Gradients are the property which is possessed by a surface or a line which departs from the horizontal line. It is also called slope, and the higher the point is, the steeper the line at the point becomes. Gradients can be computer, found or represented through straight-line graphs, curves, parallel lines and perpendicular lines.

An example of how a gradient is written is through this example – If a path’s slope vertically climbs 1000mm over distance of 25.0m, the gradient would be: 1000mm divided by 25000mm equals .04 or 1:25. To make it easier to understand, always remember this equation to find out the gradient: Rise divided by Runs is equal to 1 is to G, where G means gradient.
