Parallel mountain ranges are called cordilleras. Its name is derived from the Spanish word “cordilla” which means rope or chain. There are many notable cordilleras in the world, among of these are the following: American Cordillera which are mountain ranges in North America and South America, Arctic Cordillera which extends from the northeastern part of the Arctic Archipelago to the northeastern part of Labrador Peninsula, Cordillera Administrative Region found in the Philippines,

Cordillera de Merida in Venezuela, East Australian Cordillera which is commonly referred to as the Great Dividing Range, North American Cordillera found in the western part of North America and the Andes Mountains which is the longest continental mountain range in the whole world which stretches from the northern to southern of South America.
