Aminosyn is an amino acid injection mixed with electrolytes. It is basically given as parenteral nutrition to help provide substrates to the body. To give this injection, you need to add 147 ml of aminosyn 8.5% and qs to 500 ml of sterile water. This is because aminosyn is a concentrated formulation and you need to dilute it before injecting it IV.

The electrolytes and the amino acids then help boost the body’s metabolism and stabilize the energy levels. This is critical for recovery of patients who are unable to take nutrition orally such as those with esophageal cancer or those in come.
