An agglomerated submerged arc welding flux can be susceptible to moisture pick up. During submerged arc welding less sparks and splatter are leaked compared to some other welding methods and the working conditions are much better than open arc welding. This type of welding can also minimize the risk of human error greatly.

Unfortunately as stated there can be a risk for moisture pick up during this type of welding. Heating the flux beforehand can help with the moisture buildup but clean up due to moisture collection might be a bit more lengthy than it is with other type of welding.
